      <title>过桥</title>

<description>&lt;![CDATA[It was day two in Kunming, and the rain had eased up. I walked around the streets of the old town area, looking for somewhere to try one of the famous local dishes (过桥米线 - Cross the Bridge Noodles), and building up the courage to cross my own, internal bridge - making myself walk into a restaurant and order something in my extremely nervous Mandarin.&#xA;&#xA;a data-flickr-embed=&#34;true&#34; data-header=&#34;true&#34; data-footer=&#34;true&#34; href=&#34;https://www.flickr.com/photos/lonelyradio/54770682434/in/album-72177720328885474/&#34; title=&#34;IMG6712.jpg&#34;img src=&#34;https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54770682434a651b62be4z.jpg&#34; width=&#34;640&#34; height=&#34;480&#34; alt=&#34;3 layers of plates containing assorted vegetables, slices of meat, and two eggs, waiting to be poured into a large bowl of noodles.&#34;//ascript async src=&#34;//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js&#34; charset=&#34;utf-8&#34;/script&#xA;&#xA;A bit of wandering and AMap&#39;ing later, I found myself seated at the back of a restaurant, which was just as well - as soon as I&#39;d ordered, my nose suddenly erupted with blood, and I spent about 15 minutes waiting for it to stop before I could eat.&#xA;&#xA;a data-flickr-embed=&#34;true&#34; data-header=&#34;true&#34; data-footer=&#34;true&#34; href=&#34;https://www.flickr.com/photos/lonelyradio/54770690343/in/album-72177720328885474&#34; title=&#34;a large bowl of rice noodles in a yellow broth, with a large wooden spoon and chopsticks. some meat and vegetables are visible around the top and left of the bowl.&#34;img src=&#34;https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54770690343ab9d4d0c3ez.jpg&#34; width=&#34;640&#34; height=&#34;480&#34; alt=&#34;IMG6717.jpg&#34;//ascript async src=&#34;//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js&#34; charset=&#34;utf-8&#34;/script&#xA;&#xA;The bowl was huge - I found myself cursing my aging body that just doesn&#39;t have the inner space for food that it once did, but it really hit the spot. Wandering around in Lăng Tự Đức, the tomb of Emperor Tự Đức - &#34;the last Vietnamese monarch to rule independently&#34; (ref) - I saw this:&#xA;&#xA;a data-flickr-embed=&#34;true&#34; data-header=&#34;true&#34; data-footer=&#34;true&#34; href=&#34;https://www.flickr.com/photos/lonelyradio/52424025729/in/datetaken/&#34; title=&#34;IREDE9941.jpg&#34;img src=&#34;https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52424025729512feb36aaz.jpg&#34; width=&#34;640&#34; height=&#34;640&#34; alt=&#34;IREDE9941.jpg&#34;/ascript async src=&#34;//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js&#34; charset=&#34;utf-8&#34;/script&#xA;&#xA;Just as I&#39;d arrived in Huế, an old colleague asked if I was going to visit Chùa Từ Hiếu (the Từ Hiếu Pagoda), where Thích Nhất Hạnh had started his life as a monk and recently returned to live out his final days before passing away earlier in the year. I managed to add it to my driver&#39;s itinerary. Having racked up so many miles in temples in Thailand, I&#39;d be lying if I tried to say this one felt particularly &#34;special&#34; somehow - every temple has something - but it was certainly peaceful. Thai temples always seem to have an underlying buzz of activity that seemed absent here, at least this morning.&#xA;&#xA;a data-flickr-embed=&#34;true&#34; data-header=&#34;true&#34; data-footer=&#34;true&#34; href=&#34;https://www.flickr.com/photos/lonelyradio/52423235542/in/datetaken/&#34; title=&#34;B982215-R4-09-28.jpg&#34;img src=&#34;https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52423235542c70418f0d2z.jpg&#34; width=&#34;640&#34; height=&#34;429&#34; alt=&#34;B982215-R4-09-28.jpg&#34;/ascript async src=&#34;//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js&#34; charset=&#34;utf-8&#34;/script&#xA;&#xA;a data-flickr-embed=&#34;true&#34; data-header=&#34;true&#34; data-footer=&#34;true&#34; href=&#34;https://www.flickr.com/photos/lonelyradio/52424255223/in/datetaken/&#34; title=&#34;OUIUE9464.jpg&#34;img src=&#34;https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/5242425522306ab50af1dz.jpg&#34; width=&#34;640&#34; height=&#34;640&#34; alt=&#34;OUIUE9464.jpg&#34;/ascript async src=&#34;//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js&#34; charset=&#34;utf-8&#34;/script&#xA;&#xA;Perhaps the most pleasant time I had was walking the long way around the lake in Lăng Minh Mạng, hearing birds and distant noises as I caught shade from the trees and trudged through the grass. <title>Droughts and Mirages</title>
      <link>https://apintandaparma.club/cos/droughts-and-mirages</link>
<description>&lt;![CDATA[When the pandemic hit and we were stuck with just being able to walk in an N-km radius from home, I assumed it’d all be fine because I’d still be able to pursue my #FilmPhotography and find plenty of things to take photos of. Somehow, though, it didn’t work out like that.&#xA;&#xA;!--more--&#xA;&#xA;My lovely collection of film cameras, no matter how often I dipped into them to try a different one on each short trip, spent their time at the bottom of my bag while I walked and moped and struggled to find beauty in the everyday. When I did find a shot, my phone was just too convenient to avoid. Even when I recently travelled overseas - at last! - hoping for some inspiration in other places, the film shots didn’t come back looking that great, especially compared to the phone ones.&#xA;&#xA;It feels like I’ve finally had a breakthrough, though, with a bunch of “keepers” from my first roll of JapanCameraHunter Streetpan 400. It’s enough to make me love black &amp; white film again:&#xA;&#xA;a data-flickr-embed=&#34;true&#34; data-header=&#34;true&#34; data-footer=&#34;true&#34; href=&#34;https://www.flickr.com/photos/lonelyradio/52515191391/in/dateposted/&#34; title=&#34;B983134-R1-22-23.jpg&#34;img src=&#34;https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52515191391d8a95c4ed6z.jpg&#34; width=&#34;640&#34; height=&#34;429&#34; alt=&#34;B983134-R1-22-23.jpg&#34;/ascript async src=&#34;//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js&#34; charset=&#34;utf-8&#34;/script&#xA;&#xA;a data-flickr-embed=&#34;true&#34; data-header=&#34;true&#34; data-footer=&#34;true&#34; href=&#34;https://www.flickr.com/photos/lonelyradio/52515191881/in/dateposted/&#34; title=&#34;that guy&#34;img src=&#34;https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/5251519188177f0291d87z.jpg&#34; width=&#34;640&#34; height=&#34;429&#34; alt=&#34;that guy&#34;/ascript async src=&#34;//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js&#34; charset=&#34;utf-8&#34;/script&#xA;&#xA;a data-flickr-embed=&#34;true&#34; data-header=&#34;true&#34; data-footer=&#34;true&#34; href=&#34;https://www.flickr.com/photos/lonelyradio/52515461304/in/dateposted/&#34; title=&#34;B983134-R1-20-21.jpg&#34;img src=&#34;https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/525154613040a49ebf39dz.jpg&#34; width=&#34;640&#34; height=&#34;429&#34; alt=&#34;B983134-R1-20-21.jpg&#34;/ascript async src=&#34;//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js&#34; charset=&#34;utf-8&#34;/script&#xA;&#xA;Wandering back in my archives, though, tells a slightly different story - there’s been a few more (film) winners in the last two years than I remembered, both from my much-loved Leica M6:&#xA;&#xA;a data-flickr-embed=&#34;true&#34; data-header=&#34;true&#34; data-footer=&#34;true&#34; href=&#34;https://www.flickr.com/photos/lonelyradio/51883430784/in/dateposted/&#34; title=&#34;Lake Tyrrell, last week.&#34;img src=&#34;https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/5188343078412f7bbf0a3n.jpg&#34; width=&#34;320&#34; height=&#34;215&#34; alt=&#34;Lake Tyrrell, last week.&#34;/ascript async src=&#34;//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js&#34; charset=&#34;utf-8&#34;/script&#xA;&#xA;a data-flickr-embed=&#34;true&#34; data-header=&#34;true&#34; data-footer=&#34;true&#34; href=&#34;https://www.flickr.com/photos/lonelyradio/51821645468/in/dateposted/&#34; title=&#34;confusatron&#34;img src=&#34;https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51821645468587777af92n.jpg&#34; width=&#34;320&#34; height=&#34;215&#34; alt=&#34;confusatron&#34;/ascript async src=&#34;//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js&#34; charset=&#34;utf-8&#34;/script&#xA;&#xA;...and the medium format point-and-shoot Fuji GA645i that still occasionally surprises me after a decade:&#xA;&#xA;a data-flickr-embed=&#34;true&#34; data-header=&#34;true&#34; data-footer=&#34;true&#34; href=&#34;https://www.flickr.com/photos/lonelyradio/51008118781/in/dateposted/&#34; title=&#34;seeing stars&#34;img src=&#34;https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51008118781900c5deb8en.jpg&#34; width=&#34;320&#34; height=&#34;234&#34; alt=&#34;seeing stars&#34;/ascript async src=&#34;//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js&#34; charset=&#34;utf-8&#34;/script&#xA;&#xA;a data-flickr-embed=&#34;true&#34; data-header=&#34;true&#34; data-footer=&#34;true&#34; href=&#34;https://www.flickr.com/photos/lonelyradio/51821880079/in/dateposted/&#34; title=&#34;a tiny moment of calm&#34;img src=&#34;https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51821880079cfac6d6504n.jpg&#34; width=&#34;241&#34; height=&#34;320&#34; alt=&#34;a tiny moment of calm&#34;/ascript async src=&#34;//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js&#34; charset=&#34;utf-8&#34;/script&#xA;&#xA;But this is why I should be spending more time with my archives - it’s a great way to remind myself of what I have done, and helps challenge the devil on my shoulder that keeps telling me “meh.
